Dimokori (Διμοκόρι) Ioannina
Dimokori or Dimokorio o is a mountainous village in Epirus in the Regional Unit of Ioannina[1].
Geographical - historical information
Dimokori is located on the northwestern border of Greece with Albania and historically belongs to the Pogonochoria[2]. The village is built on the western slopes of Mount Kasidiaris at an altitude of 600 meters[1] in a lush green area with many running waters. It is 50 kilometers northwest of Ioannina (via Aetopetra) and 27 kilometers southwest of Kalpaki.
Its old name is Dimokori and this is how it is officially mentioned in 1919, after the liberation, in the Government Gazette 184A - 19/08/1919 to designate the seat of the newly founded homonymous community. In 1940 it was corrected to Dimokorio[3]. Since 1997 the old primary school (Ameliko) has been classified as a historical monument "because it is connected to the memories of the inhabitants and the tradition of the village"[4]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Psilokastro they form the local community of Dimokorio which belongs to the municipal unit of Lavdani of the Municipality of Pogoni and according to the 2011 census has a population of 27 inhabitants[5].
