Cheimarros (Χείμαρρος) Serres
Cheimarros is a lowland village of the Regional Unit of Serres at an altitude of 50 meters[1].
Geography - History
Cheimarros is located towards the western border with the Regional Unit of Kilkis at a distance of 13 km. S.-S.W. of Iraklia and 31 W. of Serres. It is built to the southwest of Lake Kerkini and west of the Strymon River. The population, according to the 2011 census, is 740[2] inhabitants and its occupation is mainly the production of agricultural products such as tobacco, cereals and recently oil. Livestock farming, especially sheep and goats, is experiencing particular development. The majority of the inhabitants are of Pontic origin, settled by the Population Exchange in 1923.
The village was formerly an autonomous community established on 4/1/1920 under the name Koprivi Community and renamed Cheimarros Community on 30/8/1927, and with the Kapodistrias program it was merged with other communities into the Municipality of Strymonikos.[3][4] After the Kallikratis program it belongs to the Municipality of Irakleia.[5]
