Anthrakia is a mountainous village in the Grevena regional unit at an altitude of 670 meters[2].

Geography - History

Anthrakia is located on the southern border with the Trikala regional unit at a distance of 29 km. SW. from Grevena. Its name is due to the coal that existed in the area. The village is mentioned in 1962 in written texts of the Holy Monastery of Zavorda as Manesi. Its current name is due to the coal that exists in the area. The inhabitants of the village are mainly engaged in livestock farming. At the location "Paliokastro" about three kilometers northeast of the village and at a distance of about 3 km. at the location "Paliokastro" ruins of a wall made of local stones (dry stone) dating back to the Hellenistic and Roman eras have been identified. The village is officially referred to as Manes in 1918 in the Government Gazette 260A - 31/12/1918 to be annexed to the then community of Grindades. It was renamed Anthrakia in 1927[3]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Agioi Theodoroi, Despoti and Aimilianos, they form the local community of Agioi Theodoroi which belongs to the municipal unit of Grevena of the Municipality of Grevena and according to the 2011 census has a population of 103 residents[4].
