Ammos (Άμμος) Imathia

Ammos is a village and seat of the homonymous local community, of the municipal unit and municipality of Veroia, of the regional unit (former prefecture) of Imathia, in the region of Central Macedonia, according to the Kallikratis program.[1][2] Before the Kapodistrias plan and the Kallikratis program, it belonged to the province and prefecture of Imathia, in the geographical department of Macedonia.[3][4]

Geography

Ammos is a village in the central part of the prefecture of Imathia. It is located in the large plain of Aliakmonas, near the northern banks of the river and at an average elevation of 35. It is approximately 5.5 km. SE. of Veroia. The local community is characterized as a rural lowland settlement, with an area of ​​3.297 km² (2011).[1][3][4][5]

Administrative changes

The settlement was recognized in 1918 and annexed to the community of Mikrogouzi in the prefecture of Thessaloniki. In 1926 it was annexed to the municipality of Veroia and in 1928 it was abolished. It was re-established in 1940 and in 1946 it was subordinated to the prefecture of Imathia. With the Government Gazette 244A - 04/12/1997 it was detached from the community of Agia Varvara and annexed to the municipality of Veria.[2]
