Agioi Omologites (Greek : Αγίοι Ομολογητές)s (Αγίοι Ομολογητές) is a district of the Municipality of Nicosia.

Location

To the north it borders with Trypiotis, to the east with Agios Antonios, to the southeast with Aglantzia, to the south with Agios Dimitrios (Strovolos Municipality), to the west with Chryseleousa (Strovolos Municipality) and to the northwest with Engomi and Agios Andreas .

Designation

The original name of the village was Mantia and it belonged to the city-kingdom of Ledra. Many centuries later, in a cave in the center of the village, an image of the Agioi Omologites (Agios Gourias, Agios Samonas and Agios Avivos) was discovered, painted by the hierographer Pavlos in 1663. For this reason, the settlement took the name Agioi Omologetis, to in honor of the three Saints. Then the church of the same name was built in the area. It is worth noting that the Agioi Omologites were not active in Cyprus, nor did they come from there.
History

Until 1944 the Agioi Omologites were an independent village. On January 1, 1944, they were incorporated into the Municipality of Nicosia.

At that time it was a small village between Pediai Potamos and Demosthenes Severis Avenue, with dirt roads and many fields.

The Presidential Palace of Cyprus is located in the Holy Confessors. Before the independence of Cyprus, the building was the governor's office, where the British Governor of Cyprus resided during the British rule. For this reason, the first road in the area to be paved was Agioi Omologitos Avenue, since it was used by the governor to go to and from the governor's office.

After the Turkish invasion of 1974, many apartment buildings were built in the area. However, in the central core of the Agioi Omologites, several elements of traditional architecture are preserved to this day.
