Pierre Bonirote, born on April 6, 1811 in Lyon and died in Orliénas on May 24, 1891 (at 80 years), was a French painter.

Pierre Bonirote entered the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Lyon in 1824 and studied painting with Pierre Révoil and Claude Bonnefond. He exhibited his first painting entitled A Little Savoyarde Wounded at the Foot in Lyon in 1833, a canvas acquired by the Society of Friends of the Arts.

After a two-year trip to Italy where he met Ingres and Hippolyte Flandrin, he was recommended in 1840 by Ingres to the Duchess of Plaisance to found a school of painting in Athens. He directed this school for three years and returned to France in 1843.

He was appointed professor at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon in April 1852, in the 2nd Division of the Principles class, then replacing Michel-Philibert Genod in the 1st Division and finally succeeding Joseph Guichard in the painting class in 1871.

Pierre Bonirote retired in 1874.
