He was president of the Convention in 1793, when he wrote the text of the said Constitution of Year I (adopted 24 June 1793). Member of the Committee of Public hello, he helped organize the Terror; but a friend of Danton and linked to Hébertists he was, like them, sentenced by the Revolutionary Tribunal and guillotined in April 1794.
