Vrachos (Βράχος) Kastoria
Vrachos (The Rock in Greek) is a mountain village in the Kastoria Regional Unit of Macedonia.[1] Administratively it belongs to the Municipality of Argos Orestikos of Western Macedonia. It is built at an altitude of 1,080 meters[2] on the slopes of Mount Voio and is one of the most mountainous settlements of R.U. Kastoria. Its population according to the 2011 census was 33 inhabitants.[3] Recently an artificial lake was created in close proximity to the village.
Until 1926, the village was called Skumtsiko[4] from the Turkish skeb (rock). A Folklore-Costume Museum operates in the settlement.[5][6]
As of 2022, September 11 has been established as Macedonian Vrachos Memorial Day as an event in the settlement.[7][8]
