Semeli is located on the border with the Kavala Regional Unit and the northwestern edge of the Xanthi plain at an altitude of 120 meters[2]. It is 18 km N. from Eulalos (seat of the municipality), 12 km SW. from Xanthi and 43 km. E.-NE. from Kavala. To the southwest of the village are Toxotes, to the south the Mikro and Megalo Tympanos, to the south passes the Xanthi - Kavala highway and to the northeast is Petrochori. It is considered one of the recently abandoned settlements of Xanthi that the Pomak residents gradually moved to but return in the summer months.[3]

During the period of the Turkish rule, it was mentioned under the name Foutsourlou[4] and officially, after the liberation of Thrace, in 1924 under the name Semeli in Official Gazette 194A - 14/08/1924 to be annexed to the then community of Toxoton.[5] According to the "Kallikratis" Program, it belongs to the municipal community of Toxoton which is under the Municipality of Topiros and according to the census of 2011 there are 27 inhabitants.[6] while its population censuses were:[7]
