Niokastro is located at an altitude of 820 meters [1], North-West. of Nafpaktos at a distance of 30 km. [2] from it and on the provincial road Nafpaktos - Loutra Stachtis. The shells and tiles that have been found in the wider area as well as the remains of a castle that exist at the top of the hill "Paliokastro" testify to its ancient habitation. In Venetian documents of 1499 it is mentioned as Paliokastello and a fortified location of the Venetians, while it is probable that it existed as a fortress and the Byzantine period [3].
