Neo Argyri (Νέο Αργύρι) Evrytania

Neo Argyri is a settlement in the northwestern prefecture of Evrytania and belongs to the municipal unit of Aspropotamos in the municipality of Agrafa. It is part of the local unit of Neos Argyriou together with the village of Dafnoula.

Location

Neo Argyri is located at the northwestern tip of the prefecture of Evrytania, very close to the border with the prefectures of Karditsa and Etoloakarnania. It is 90 km from the capital of Evritania Karpenisi and 50 km from Kerasochori, the seat of the Municipality. The settlement of Dafnoula also belongs to the Local Community of Neos Argyriou.

To the west of the village passes the river Acheloos. It is also the natural border of the prefectures of Evrytania and Aitoloakarnania. In 2009, a hydroelectric dam was built at Dafnozoara in the west of the village. Also, just outside the two ends of the village, there are two stone bridges over Acheloos. These are the bridges of Templa and Avlaki, which date from the early 1910s.

Residents

A part of the first inhabitants of the village come from the neighboring village of Argyri in the prefecture of Karditsa. The village also became a refuge for other families from Epirus but also for families from other areas during the Turkish occupation.
