Nea Persaina (Νέα Πέρσαινα) Ilia

Nea Persaina is a relatively new village in the Peloponnese, with 288 permanent residents (2011 census). It belongs to the Local Community of Persaina of the Municipality of Ancient Olympia of the Municipal Unit of Foloi of the Prefecture of Ilia [2] [3]. It is located on the plateau of Kapeli, in the location of Botini (with geographical coordinates: 37 ° 45´0 "north and 21 ° 41´0" east), about 50 km northeast of the Tower and 27 km northeast of Ancient Olympia and is built in the western part of the famous Foloi oak forest and below the highest point of the mountain, which is the top of Fourka, at an altitude of about 780 m. [4]

Mount Foloi starts where Erymanthos and Lampeia mountains (Astras) end, that is, in Koumani and ends in Kremasti, just before Pyrgos and Geraki, before Amaliada.

Earthquake (1965)

In 1965 there was an earthquake that caused dangerous cracks in the houses and on the ground. After steps by the Persian Community in the then government, technical and administrative officials were sent, who, after studying the matter, decided that there was a need to relocate the village to a new safe place. The location of Botini Persainis with a total area of 168,490 sq.m. was chosen by all.

Nea Persaina

In 1970 the new village, Nea Persaina, began to be built, and in 1975 the new houses were handed over to the Persians. Thus another village was created, with new houses, with beautiful streets with a city plan, with electricity, water, sewerage, transport, and other amenities.

However, the soul of the Persians remained down there, in Old Persina. This is for the Persians, especially the old ones, "their own paradise".
