  • Mochos is a large settlement in the province of Pediada in the Municipality of Hersonissos, located at an altitude of 400 m at the western end in a fertile but arid lowland area, overgrown with olive groves and vineyards. It is 45.8 km away from Heraklion. The inhabitants are engaged in olive growing and viticulture. The basis of the village's economy is oil. It has a post office, a gendarmerie station (former), a kindergarten, a primary school, a high school, a high school and a rural doctor's office. The football team of Mochos plays in the Cretan group of the 2nd EPSI category.

    Customs

    Historical data

    The etymology of the place name is unknown. In Venetian censuses it is referred to as Mogho, with the first reference being in 1387. In 1583 it had 451 inhabitants (Kastrofylakas, K95). In 1881 it is the seat of the homonymous municipality, with 1299 inhabitants, in 1900 the municipality is renamed Lagados but remains the capital, cat. 1613, in 1920 seat of the homonymous rural municipality, inhabitants 1671, in 1928 inhabitants 1730, in 1940 cat. 1810, in 1951 cat. 1804, in 1961 cat. 1716 and in 1971 cat. 1422.

    The Varnava brothers came from Moho, who acted before the Revolution of 1821. Varnavogiorgis, who was captured by the Turkish navy and taken into his personal guard by Captain Pasha Gazi Hussein, was disobedient to him and fierce, hard dictator of Moho, Ibrahim Mohoglou (P.
