Lastaiika (Λασταίικα) Ilia
Lastaiika (Lasteika) is a village and seat of the homonymous Local Community of the Prefecture of Ilia. Administratively, it belongs to the Municipal Unit of Pyrgos of the "Kallikratikos" Municipality of Pyrgos and is located 5 km northwest of the city of Pyrgos. According to the 2011 census, it had 718 permanent residents, while the population has started and is increasing in recent years, as more and more people (especially residents of Pyrgos) are building new houses in the village. The settlement of Itia with 97 permanent residents also belongs to the Local Community of Lastaikon (inventory 2011).
Lastaiika has a primary school, a church (Agios Spyridonas) and a central square.
History
The village began to be inhabited after the revolution of 1821 and the establishment of the Greek state, by people who left Lasta Arcadia, a village that was burned in 1826 by Ibrahim Pasha.
Sport
The village has the football team of N. Atromitos Lastaiikon, which this year (2010-2011) is playing in the 3rd division of the EPS Ilia championship. The area also offers cycling routes.
