  • Kato Kalesia (Κάτω Καλέσια ) Heraklion
  • Kato Kalesia is a village in the province of Malevizi. Since 1998, with the Law of Kapodistrias, it is a settlement in the Municipal Department of Kaleisia (Municipality of Kalesia), which has a total of 896 inhabitants, based on the 2001 census. In the south of the village, at a distance of 300-400 meters, there is and the settlement of Ano Kalesia. At a distance of 7 km is the source of Agia Paraskevi, from which both villages are supplied with water.

    In Kato Kalesia is the church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, old with a wood-carved iconostasis and old portable icons, as well as the church of the Apostles Peter and Paul, which was inaugurated in 1968. The inhabitants are engaged in viticulture and olive growing. The main products are oil and raisins. In the settlement there is a kindergarten and a Primary School.

    Recently, the name Kalesa became Kalesia for both Ano Kalesia and Kato.
    Historical data

    The village is named after Calessa Catto with 160 inhabitants, based on the census of Kastrofylakas (K 102).
