Historical data

The village is mentioned as two villages in the Venetian censuses. Francesco Barocci in 1577 mentions Calisichia Cato and Calisichia apano in the province of St. Basil. The Venetian census of 1583 by Kastrofylakas mentions Apano Calisichia with 70 inhabitants and Cato Calisichia, while Vasilikata mentions it in 1630 as a village, called Cali Sichia. The Ottoman census of 1659 records 18 houses. In the 1834 census, organized by the Egyptians, the village is recorded along with other villages in the area, with a total of 388 Christian families. In 1830, the Egyptians located and extracted coal from the area of Kali Sykia. [2]

According to the 1881 census, Kali Sykia belonged to the municipality of Lampi and had a purely Christian population, 118 inhabitants. In the 1900 census it had 137 inhabitants. In the 1920 census it belonged to the rural municipality of Agios Ioannis. [2] In 1925, Asomatos was designated the seat of a homonymous community, until the Kapodistrian administrative division, when the village was annexed to the Municipality of Finikas. [3]

On October 4, 1943, during the German occupation, a battle took place near the village between resistance and German and Italian forces, which resulted in the death of 17 occupiers and their interpreter. In retaliation, German forces, along with Franz Schubert's forces, reached the village. They gathered the women and forced them to testify to the positions of the guerrillas. But they refused. The Germans then, who had looted the village, burned them alive, along with the village houses. [4]
