  • Evangelistria (Ευαγγελίστρια) Voiotia
  • Evangelistria is a mountain village in the municipality of Aliartos, in the regional unit of Viotia, in the region of Central Greece. It is located on the slopes of Elikon at an altitude of 520 meters. It has a population of 191 inhabitants, according to the 2011 Census. The village was called Zagara until 1927, when it was renamed Evangelistria [1], from the adjacent homonymous monastery.

    Evaggelistria voiotias

    Evangelistria was the seat of the community in the period 1912-1998, [2] while later it joined the Municipality of Aliartos, where it remains to this day.

    Researcher Giannis Dedes has proposed the identification of the settlement with the medieval manor Pzagaritxa which refers to archives of Barcelona and concerns the period of Catalan rule in the Duchy of Athens / Thebes between 1311-1388.


    Demography

    Its population peaked in 1940 and then declined slightly.
