Elaiochori (Ελαιοχώρι) Aitoloakarnania

Elaiochori, officially Elaiochorion, is a semi-mountainous village in the Regional Unit of Etoloakarnania at an altitude of 420 meters [1].

Geography - History

Elaiochori is located on the northern borders with the Regional Unit of Arta and next to the Amvrakikos gulf. It is 25 km north of Amfilochia and 40 km SE. from Arta. To the west passes Ionia Odos and at the height of the village there is the Eleochori Bridge. The church of Agios Georgios, which is an 18th century building, is considered important. Its old name is Tsaknochori and so it is mentioned, after the liberation, in 1912 in the Government Gazette 261A - 31/08/1912 when it was annexed to the then community of Valmada. In 1968 with the Government Gazette 311A ​​- 31/12/1968 it was renamed Elaiochori [3]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Menidi, Theriakisi, Lagkada, Sykoula and Katsouli, they constitute the Local Community of Menidi, which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Menidi of the Municipality of Amfilochia and according to the 2011 census has a population of 25 inhabitants [4] .
