Dragotina (Δραγωτινά) Kerkyra

Dragotina is a settlement with an altitude of 50 m. In the prefecture of Corfu. It is open to the Municipality of Lefkimmi and has 274 inhabitants.

History

The village, according to Alexandros Kantas, is one of the oldest and dates back to 1507. Its name comes from the word dragatis, which means guardian of vineyards, because the white farmer had the greatest income from the cultivation of the vineyards.

In the village before the tragedy of 1537 there were 36 families [reference is pending], of which only two families Therianou and Kastrinou were saved [reference is pending]. During the 1720s, the Therianou family moved to Neochori. The families of Agouridis, Zenebisis, Mantsi, Michailitsi, Mamalouka and others were completely eliminated.

The village was not where it is today but at the foot of the language of the Brigadier General's speech which is directed downwards and to the east of Daphne. This village was destroyed in 1710 by a pirate raid, so the remaining inhabitants were forced to move to where the village is today. The raid was carried out by the famous Barbarossa. The church of Taxiarchis existed before the year 1536.
Churches of the village

The church of Ai Lias has existed since 1536 with its famous festival. It once served as a monastery with two buildings inhabited by monks and the other as an olive mill. Today, however, they are deserted.

It is customary for the village not to bake the traditional spear on Easter day, but the next day, on Easter Monday.

There is still a great martyr, Ai Charalambos. His memory is celebrated on February 10.
