General and historical data

Remains of a Neolithic settlement have been found near Akropotamos. [2] The Akropotamos is built at an altitude of 240 meters and before 1940 it was known as Bobliani and Monolithos of the Akropotamos. [3] After 1924, Greek refugees from Cappadocia settled in the settlement. [4] In early October 1941, about 20 residents of the settlement were executed by the Bulgarian Occupation Forces in retaliation for the outbreak of the Drama uprising. [5]

Administratively, after its incorporation into the Greek state, the Akropotamos was subordinated to the province of Pangaio where it remained until 1997. Then it became part of the Kapodistrian municipality of Orfanos [3] and since 2011 it belongs to the cultural municipality of Pangaio.
