Agrilia (Αγριλιά) Achaia

Agrilia is a small settlement and belongs to the Local Community of Vasilikos of the Municipality of Erymanthos in the regional unit of Achaia, according to the administrative division of the Kallikratis Program that is valid in Greece from 1/1/2011 [1].

It is built on the northern outskirts of the so-called plain of Farra, at an altitude of 169 meters, near the borders of the municipality. It is adjacent to the village of Vasiliko, the small settlements of Sterna and Stefani as well as the Lygies of the Municipal Unit of Messatida of the Municipality of Patras.

It is about 20 km by road from the center of Patras.

Its original name was "Gerbesaika", a name derived from the mountain village of Gerbesi Kalavryta (today: Profitis Ilias), from which shepherds descended on the area in winter and many of them settled there permanently. It is reported that its original inhabitants come, beyond the Gerbesi of Kalavrita, and from Vrachni of Kalavrita [2]. Near Agrilia there was another settlement called "Gerbesaika", today's Stefani.

The name "Agrilia" comes from the name of the homonymous hill that surrounds the village.

It is a relatively new settlement. It was recognized as a settlement on 16/10/1940 under the name "Gerbesaeika" [1] and since then it is part of the Royal Community in all administrative changes [1] [3]. With the Government Gazette 287A of 10/10/1955, it was renamed "Agrilia" [1] [4].

Demographic development

In summary, the demographic development of the settlement according to the national censuses [5] [6] is as follows:
1940 1951 1961 1971 1981 1991 2001 2011
89 [7] 107 [7] 127 [7] 121 [7] 131 [7] 151 [7] 122 [7] [8] 96 [9]
