Karpasia, Cyprus

Komi Kepir or Komi Kebir (Greek : Κώμη Κεπίρ ) is a community of the District of Famagusta in the occupied region of Cyprus.

Geographical Position: It is located 33km north of the town of Famagusta, at a latitude of 90M.

Population: In 1960 the community numbered 654 Greek-Cypriots and 289 Turkish-Cypriots. The Greek-Cypriot population in 1973 was calculated at 562 and the Turkish-Cypriot at 200 citizens.

Christian Churches: At the borders of the village there are the churches of Saint George, Saint Afksentios and Saint Loukas. There are also some ancient churches of Panagia Kira, Saint George Parouzos, Saint Vasilios(ruins), Saint Photiou(ruins) and Saint Katherine(ruins)

Schools: At the Greek-Cypriot primary school up until the Turkish Invasion of 1974 they were 66 students at the school for the academic year of 1973-74.

During the Turkish Invasion the community was enclaved by the Turkish Army, later forcing the Greek-Cypriot villagers to leave. Since then the Turkish Army's illegal occupation has prevented them returning to their homes and properties.
