The Family of Darius before Alexander

Cavaliere Claudio Francesco Beaumont (4 July 1694 – 21 June 1766) was an Italian artist, born in Turin.[1]

Life
Beaumont's Allegory of Painting, at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Brest.

Beumont was born in Turin on 4 July 1694.[1]After studying in his native city, he went to Rome, where he copied the works of Raphael, the Carracci, and Guido Reni. He appears to have had little respect for the Roman painters of his own time, except for Trevisani, whose manner he imitated in the vigor of his tints.[2]

On his return to Turin, he was employed in decorating the royal palace, where he also painted in fresco, in the library, various symbolical subjects relative to the Royal Family of Sardinia; and in the other apartments he represented the Rape of Helen, and the Judgment of Paris. He painted for the church of Santa Croce, Turin a depiction of Descent from the Cross.[2] His patron, the King of Sardinia, knighted him in the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus in 1736.[1]
