Pluto enters Orcus. Pluto, seen from the back and depicted as a naked youth, is standing on his chariot with his left foot, swinging his bident with his right and leading the reins of his four-horse chariot with his left. At the right edge of the picture is the profile of a bearded man. (Collection of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm.) Orcus was a god of the underworld, punisher of broken oaths in Etruscan and Roman mythology. As with Hades, the name of the god was also used for the underworld itself. Eventually, he was conflated with Dis Pater and Pluto.
